About Durga Puja
Durga Puja is one of the most auspicious festivals celebrated widely across the globe.  Durga Puja is also known as Dugotsab (Worship of Durga) is an annual Hindu Bengalis festival and usually falls in autumn.  However, the durga puja is actually a puja wherein, goddess Durga Ma – gains victory to overcome the demon Mahishasura on this very occasion.

According to Gregorian calendar, the puja is usually comes in the month of September to November. It is widely celebrated in the Northern and Eastern states of India- especially places like West Bengal, Orissa, Delhi, Mumbai etc.  It is a nine day festival celebrates by all Hindu Bengali’s and the devotee’s organized special events on each day of puja as per the Hindu puja rituals.  

 The idol of Goddess Durga Ma has been specially crafted in West Bengal by a well- experienced craftsmen’s. During the durga puja festival, many pandals has been built for the devotees to participate for the puja ceremony. For the puja celebration, special flower like dhak, dhunuchi and shiuli made to offer and sprinkle on Goddess Durga – Ma.

There were also many programs arranged for the puja celebration and it gives a sense to reunite and rejuvenate of this festive season and to express emotion, love, share and care among the fellow friends, relatives, neighbor and close people. There has been various food items prepared for the puja celebration. Apart from food items, there are also varieties of sweets such as rasogulla, mithai doi, sandesh and other sweets especially for the devotees who all are visiting the pandal, at the same time enjoy the puja with great enthusiasm.

Though, elder people create a group and chant sholak and bhajan, and many people keep fast for their well-being of the children and family, young children organizes various shows for puja celebration and exchange greeting cards among their friends and relatives on this very occasion.

Eventually, on the last day of durga puja the idol of Goddess Durga Ma – is carried out in procession for visarjan (immersion) in a sea. Moreover, the durga puja festival leaves a special moment in the heart of the devotees, as they curiously welcomes this occasion every year with full joy and excitements.
