Celebrating Buddha Purnima
Buddha is considered as the ninth avatar of the Vishnu. People celebrate Buddha Jayanti or Buddha Purnima and is mark as the most important day for the people from backward class, who are also known as dalit.  This festival is celebrated in the month of Vaishak, on the month of April/May.  Entire Buddhist communities around the country celebrate this festival with great pomp.
Buddhism is considered as the most sacred religion in the world. It has got some of the great preaching’s form Gautham Buddha, who was born as Siddhartha.  He is known to be the founder of Nirvana and became completely enlightened.  Buddha means, “Awakened One”. Buddha has created eighty-four thousand teachings. It teaches the importance of inner experience and realizations.

There are many Buddha temples around the country and thousands of people visit Buddha temple to worship god. There are prayers and other teachings from Buddha scriptures. These rituals, however, also performed in the homes by keeping the idol of Buddha.  Priests who perform these rituals are called as monk and they strictly adhere to Buddha Purnima puja.  Banyan Tree is specially worshipped in this day because Gautham Buddha meditated under this tree.
The statue of Buddha, in fact gets special attention as people offer flowers, candles and fruits as their offering. People on this holy day bath in Holy River and wear white cloths.  The entire Buddhist gathers in the viharas to worship and give alms to all the monks.
On this day, Buddhist prepares Kheer and rice that are made from milk and sugar. Buddhist monks set up stalls and offer clean water and food for poor people.  There are many big occasions and other cultural activities takes place on this day. Buddhist along with the idol of Buddha carries the procession across cities. In this procession there are thousands of monks who participate in high spirit.
