Durga puja is known to be one of the important festival in west Bengal and is also celebrated in other places like, Orissa, Assam and West Bengal. Durga puja takes place in the time of autumn and is the biggest celebration in India which takes place for 9 auspicious days.

According to Hindu mythology, this occasion was started by lord Ram who offered his offering before Durga entering into battle with Ravan who kidnapped sita. It is also said that goddess Durga itself comes to this land to free from all evils.

In the times of Durga puja you will see that there are many pandal which are decorated in honor of Durga Puja. You can see peoples having fast, festival dishes, singing devotional songs and some other aspects which are taken place. There are thousand people who visit these pandal to offer their praying to goddess Durga.

This festival starts with the first day called as Mahalaya. The face of the god gets unveiled in the time of bodhon. Women observe fast in this day for well being of their family. Goddess is worshipped as kumara and reveals herself in her true Mahasaptami and on these day the celebration reaches in its peak. People wear new cloths, dance all over the possession, chanting of mantras and also can hear the rhythmic beat of dhak (drums). On the last of the festival called as Vijay Dashami idol of goddess Durga is immersed in water after performing all the rituals.

The 10th day of festival is really the exciting day as there are various dishes are prepared according to the mood of people. Dishes like Rasgulla, Sondesh, Mislti Doi and Luchi.  Many people throng to get these dishes which also can be eaten in various pandals.

Goddess durga is the god of intelligence, power, wealth and mercy creator and destroyer of the universe.
